It’s October!! You know that means it is time to watch all of the Halloween movies. Halloween and October have always been special for my family because my middle brother was born on Halloween morning in the 90s. I blame my brother for my obsession with this month and this holiday.
Now that you have a little background about me let’s get into the must-watch movies!
Halloweentown (All of them)
This movie series will forever be in my heart! I was not born when the first one came out, but I remember waiting for Halloweentown High and Return to Halloweentown to come out when I was in grade school! I remember watching these movies and wishing I was a Cromwell.
Twitches! (Both films)
If we are being honest, Twitches II was not as good as the first one, but it did not ruin the movies for me. Who does not want to have a Halloween birthday AND find your long lost twin? I mean- the magical abilities are just bonuses in my opinion.
Phantom of The Megaplex.
This movie is definitely a play on Phantom of the Opera, but as a kid, does it really matter? This movie is playful and fun in all of the right ways. It is not as scary as an adult, but when you are a kid watching it, it can be pretty nerve-wracking.
This movie and I are sometimes friends. I, personally, prefer Halloweentown. Hocus Pocus is a movie that everyone thinks of when you think classic Halloween movies. I do not love this movie for the main reason of Binx. It makes me so sad that Thackery Binx is cursed to be a cat forever because he tried to save his sister from being killed by the Sanderson sisters. Spoiler alert, Binx does get freed from the curse and gets to live in eternity with the rest of his family. However, it takes 300 years before he gets to do that.
Some honorable mentions include:
It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
Monsters Under The Bed
The Goosebump series
and My Mom is on a Date with a Vampire
These movies all old a special place in my heart. Partly because I grew up watching them and partly because I was “celebrating” my brother’s birthday by watching them.
