I have been beyond stressed lately with working about 20 hours a week part time and going to school full-time taking 5 classes, 15 units. Having a planner and scheduling can only help so much. I’ve had to devote so much time recently to study and to stay motivated. Now that I’ve got everything under control since my spring break is around the corner, I’ve noticed my self-care has not been as big of a priority as it should be. In my free time, I have been watching Hulu and going on walks to be active.
Since noticing that I need to do more for myself I came up with some ideas. I started checking out books that I’m interested in so I can read in my spare time. I also bought a bunch of canvases so I can get back to painting and creating. Along with painting, I plan to take up drawing again. I took art classes in middle school and high school and loved drawing growing up, but now that I’m an adult I haven’t had much time to create…that’s about to change. I have a few projects in mind already that I can’t wait to share with you guys. I’m very excited to get back into it. Journaling has always been a necessity for me and I write when I feel overwhelmed and when I feel I need to get something off my chest. I also bought a fitness watch recently to count my steps and measure my heart rate. As for financially, since that is why I’m working all the time so I can save money for the summer. I am trying to cut back on spending and to eat more at home and to do things I can afford instead of going out. My reward will be enjoying myself during the summer because with all the money I saved I’ll be able to go out a lot! I am trying to take better care of myself mentally, physically and financially.
My new plan for the rest of the semester, the following 8 weeks is to prioritize my assignments during the week. Meanwhile, on the weekends I’ll focus on work and my side projects. I’ll use the weekends to rest, relax and have fun. I also plan on taking on fewer shifts because it is one of the reasons I am stressed.
Physically, I am monitoring my heart rates and the number of steps daily. I’m also trying to eat healthy during the week and go out only on the weekends. I go on walks a few times a week for around 30 minutes, but I am planning to go to the gym biweekly.
Mentally, I am trying to watch less tv or spend less time in front of computers and television and more time doing projects and reading.
Financially, I am trying to measure my expenses and save receipts. I want to be more organized about my money so I can have an accurate savings goal. Since I am on my own I want to be more aware of my spending because I do stress about it.
At home, I like taking baths and using bath bombs, body washes, candles and bubbles to relax. I like putting on face masks while watching a show or reading a book. I LOVE cleaning because seeing that my home is organized makes me feel accomplished.
What is your current self-care activity go to? What do you do to take care of yourself?
